Last month, I was already experiencing lower back pain on my left side. It gives me discomfort but I didn’t pay much attention. I just placed Salonpas, ointments and massage the area. It gives me relief.
Thursday, I first feel stronger pain in my lower abdomen. It gives me discomfort at work but still managed to leave on time. I reached home early, drink milk and eat oatmeal. Then, I got diarrhea and cramping. The feeling was the same like when I have dysmenorrhoea.
I fall asleep while in pain.
It was already 1:00 am, EJ was not yet asleep. I wake up and went directly into the toilet, passing gas and small leakage of stool again. I experienced pain at the start of urination. I don’t have a fever but I’m feeling dizziness. I am losing strength, trouble breathing. I want to lie down on the bed.
EJ made me hot milo and my sister put ointments, rub my hands and stomach “kuto–kuto”. In Bisaya term, “Gikabuhi ako”. They opened the window and asked me to relax.
Yesterday, Friday, I decided not go to work and went to Tan Tock Seng hospital for a check-up. The waiting time is one hour, I was going to the toilet back and forth.
When my turn comes, the doctor asked me what happened and he suspects it was appendicitis or ovarian cyst issue. I told him that I just had one ovarian cyst removed last August. He told me maybe the cyst come back. It saddened me hearing that news but I was sure about what I’m feeling inside.
After all the urine test, blood test, he gave me pain killer. I also shifted from the wheelchair to hospital bed. A nurse gave me dextrose through an IV to replace lost fluids and provide carbohydrates to the body.
I talked to a girl in a bed beside me and asked her condition. She told me she has chest history and she was waiting for a bed in the ward. I covered the blanket and pray silently. It’s uncomfortable inside the hospital. I heard one Auntie was crying in pain. I prayed for healing, restoration, grace and God’s mercy.
Finally, when my dextrose was absorbed already. I asked the nurse if it’s okay to discharged me because I’m feeling okay after giving me a pain killer. Afterwards, the doctor came to me and asked me to signed the paper that I will take care of myself, give me MC and a referral letter to KK Hospital and medication for my abdominal pain.
Before I go to KK Hospital, I visited my cousin in Novena Square 2. We had a little conversation about what happened to me that day. It really gives me joy whenever I talked and share my experiences, it lessens the pain.
Then, I went to KK Hospital. There’s a direct shuttle bus from Novena to KK Hospital. It was my first time and this amazed me how easy and convenient it is to go to KK Hospital. The shuttle bus service has approximately 20 minutes interval. Better check the timings posted on the queuing line.
I went to O & G 24 hour clinic located in the basement 1, Women’s Tower. I had a urine test and waiting hours is not so long. The doctor was very calm and nice. I told her that I just had a Pap smear test in Manila but I didn’t manage to buy the medicine because I was back already in Singapore. She prescribed me with Flagystatin Pessary, Citravescent Urinary Alkaliniser (for UTI) and Charcoal Activated (in case I will have diarrhea again).
The total expenses I spent in a day was 389.38SGD.

It was a lesson for me not to disregard signs and early symptoms of UTI.
- A strong, persistent urge to urinate
- A burning sensation when urinating
- Passing frequent, small amounts of urine
- Lower abdomen discomfort
- Abdominal pain and backache.
- Muscle aches
