From Drassanes Hostal & Hotel Catalonia Port, we finally moved to Residencia Erasmus Gracia, near Lesseps (L3) station). We had lunch first at Cerveceria Lesseps and tried their Paella Mixta. The taste is very good, this is our my first Paella in Barcelona, EJ had a lot already. 🙂 We hit the place at around 1:00PM, lunch time starts at 2PM until 4PM, their Chicken Sandwich and Chicken Wings tapas is very tasty.
The same day, Friday, we went to Barcelona’s Magic Fountains located at the head of Avenida Maria Cristina. To get there, we use the Metro and alight at Plaça Espanya (L3), from there is about 10-15 minutes walk.
We first visited the mall named Las Arenas. This is a great shopping centre just next to Plaça Espana. I saw this mall online but never thought we would saw it right there. The Las Arenas was former bullfighting ring converted to shopping mall.
We tried the 360 degrees Panoramic, for 1 euro each, we took the elevator to get to the rooftop of the shopping mall and stepped out onto the 360 degrees viewing platform. We saw a great view of the fountains and the city. There are some restaurants on top, the weather is so good and the view is spectacular.
The facade of this mall was simply beautiful.
This mall was huge. We went inside to look for the restroom, our stomach were still full. There are lots of shops and restaurants inside.
Around 5PM, we started walking up to the musuem, taking lot of pictures and had snacks. The normal fountain stops at 7:00PM, we thought that the show will be starting soon. The place was getting crowded, people are getting early to get a good spot.
Were on the top of the fountain. We thought we had a good spot until people started crowding the place.
From my notes, the fountain starts at 7:00PM, but it turns out it didn’t begin until 9:00PM. We ended up sitting for almost 2 hours in the stairs with many tourist. We actually wanted to leave the area and decided we will go back again tomorrow but because there were many people already we tend to wait. One tourist asked us what time it will be started and we said, we thought it’s 7PM, and she knew it was 7PM too. Yeah, maybe some of those people waiting were misinformed.
The fountain is free to visit. There is no seating and there are no entrance points. There were vendors selling waters and coca-cola, you can grab some snacks on the store near the place and there were street dancers entertaining the crowd before the fountain show starts.
Wow, beautiful fountains, what a magical experience!
The light & music show is worth the wait.
Barcelona’s Magic Fountain is the most famous fountain in Barcelona. A large and spectacularly colorful fountain that was built in 1929. When the fountain show starts, it constantly changes color and shape.
The show runs for about thirty minutes.
This place is beautiful by day and vibrantly gorgeous by night.
We decided to go back again because we didn’t bring our SLR, photos of the fountains posted here are from our second visit. 🙂
Without a doubt our first day together excites me to see & experience more beautiful places in Barcelona.
